DEVILSTONES
Wondrous items (conjuration)
.
The Devilstones are compact figurines of a few centimeters, whose features evoke a specific type of devil. The stone is actually a baatezu locked in a statuette after it has been dominated, or as a punishment -although the act is sometimes voluntary, for example during a pact to obtain the soul of a mortal.
By speaking a command word, the possessor of a Devilstone can release the creature within, which obeys him for a duration of one hour per day. Anyone who picks up a Devilstone, even without knowing its magical nature or command word, automatically becomes its new owner.
_
If a Devilstone breaks, the creature appears and tries to kill its last owner. A devil that has been locked up in this way is not free until all of its owners are dead. The baatezu instinctively knows where all previous possessors of the stone are, and pursues them relentlessly.
The most well-known Devilstones are listed here. Surely there are others, but stones containing more powerful devils, such as pit fiends, probably don't exist (these monsters wouldn't deign to let themselves be locked in without a very good reason).
.
- Lemure Stone
This reddish ball of resin resembles a compressed, half-melted humanoid torso, with grotesque features and a face contorted in pain. It is slightly warm and moist to the touch.
.
- Osyluth Stone
At first glance similar to a nugget of gold , this stone with metallic reflections is surprisingly light and its texture is comparable to bone. It looks like a skeletal humanoid in a fetal position, whose scorpion tail wraps around its body.
.
- Erinyes Stone
Roughly cut to resemble a diamond, this stone has the appearance of obsidian. The surface of the figurine evokes angel wings, covering a female figure enveloped within them.
.
- Hamatula Stone
What seemed to be an emerald is in fact a statuette of a cowering being. Small, folded spikes appear all over its body, giving the stone a rough texture.
.
- Gelugon Stone
This vaguely rectangular sapphire is always cool to the touch. It is slightly transparent and could pass for ice or tinted glass. An insectoid figure armed with a pitchfork is sitting on its center.
.
- Cornugon Stone
This ovoid stone could be an amethyst veined with red, and represents some kind of long horned gargoyle. It is seated and wrapped in large bat wings.
